Jason is the COO and founder of Concept, a graphic design and multimedia company that offers a wide range of services, including branding and corporate identity, market research, and photography. He has formed a subsidiary company through Concept called Maelstrom Media. This indie game studio produced a game called Charged: A Jolt of Inspiration, which was featured in the 2019 Global Game Jam, as well as a serious game project called Sullivan: The Great Fire of 1982 for the College of the North Atlantic’s (CNA) Video Game Art and Design program. Sullivan was featured at the 2019 Sci Fi on the Rock. Maelstrom Media plans to release its first game outside of CNA’s Video Game Art and Design program in 2020.
Jason graduated from the Graphic Arts Program at CNA in 1996, and throughout the next decade taught college courses in Adobe and Quark. He worked as a Junior Graphic Designer at Walbourne Design Associates from 1996-1998 before moving his trade skills to a print publication called Atlantic Business Magazine, where he was eventually promoted to Production Manager.
When Jason discovered the CNA Video Game Art and Design Program moved to St. John’s, he jumped at the chance to apply. What could be more perfect than combining his love of design with his lifelong passion of the video game industry? Over the past two years of the course, he has thoroughly enjoyed learning all aspects of the program, from video game design and animation, to branching narratives and sound engineering.
With over 20 years’ experience in the fields of design and multimedia, Jason brings a wealth of industry knowledge to GameDev NL. His networking skills, technical abilities, and creative instinct will go a long way towards fostering growth of the game development industry in Newfoundland and Labrador.
